I’m now a mummy..

So, 30 Days of Me came to an abrupt end. Why?

On Tuesday morning last week, we awoke 2 twin ewe lambs born to Suzy Heazlewood. Dave came in and woke me to tell me about them, and to say they weren’t doing to well. We imagine they’d been born at least a few hours, were freezing cold and unable to stand. So inside they came to warm up! We tried to milk Suzy to get some colostrum and found the problem… Suzy had no milk.

After a few hours, some syringed milk, a hot water bottle and a big sleep… they both suddenly got up and haven’t stopped since! Suzy wasn’t really interested in looking after them, and she has no milk anyway, so we are officially mummy and daddy. They have been names Sarah Bradley and Stephanie Mills.

That same day, we noticed Susan Boyle showing signs of going into labour. That night, she gave birth to triplet ewe lambs; Helen Clark, Julia Gillard and Jenny Shipley. Not bad for a first time mum! She has been doing a fantastic job… just one glitch a few hours after they were born. Dave went out to check and Julia had wandered into a different paddock and was upside down and very cold. Inside she came! But next morning Susan took her back.

Three morning later, we wake to Lyn Mason’s twins. Boys this time, Jerry Brownlee and Peter Hammarsteadt. Of course they were born on the day the ‘storm’ hit. Could have been worse, but not nice for tiny babies! On that nights checks, Lyn left Peter alone twice and looked after Jerry instead. When Dave found him he couldn’t stand… so in he came! It seems she may have rejected him that night, and hasn’t wanted anything to do with him since (as much as he seeks her love and attention!).

So there we have it… we double our sheep population in just a few days! And Dave and I now have 3 shadows following us around bellowing for milk!

30 Days of Me – Day 6

Day 06- Favorite super hero and why

(For the first time, I spelled ‘days’ correctly first time!)

I think I’m stretching it a bit calling Robin Hood a super hero… well, I know I am, but I’m not really into the super hero thing. (Though I do like the newer Batman movies)

I like Robin Hood because he’s nobody special… a lot of people don’t like him. But he believes in something that I believe in… that we should look after people. That we should notice the people that need help; not just stealing from the rich to give to the poor, but giving what you can to those that need. Sometimes it might be giving your time, a small gift, a smile, I thought out message or card. We try to be independent and do it all ourselves, but sometimes we need help. And sometimes we need to give help.

And we don’t have to wait until we ‘have enough’. Robin Hood didn’t steal from the rich so he got rich, so he could afford to give to the poor. He gave what he could, when he could… and he was proactive about making it happen.

Kind of reminds me about an experiment I saw on TV. They got an actor pretending to be a homeless man fall and pass out on the street. He was holding a can of beer. Everyone walked past him, with little more than a sideways glance… assuming he was just drunk, nobody checking to see if he needed help.

Then a homeless woman was walking past with her walking stick and stopped, asking people to please call an ambulance. Most people ignored her too. Finally someone listened.

She is the Robin Hood… she couldn’t get down to him on the ground, she couldn’t call someone herself, but she did what she could. She talked to him, she advocated for him.

We should all look out for one another, I could do well to remember that too.

But don’t steal, that’s illegal.

30 Days of Me – Day 5

Day 05- A picture of somewhere you’ve been to

This was at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.. loved that place! Also love this pic because of the giraffe in the foreground, and the city in the background. You certainly don’t feel like you’re in a city when watching the zoo animals.

30 Days of Me – Day 4

Day 04- A habit that you wish you didn’t have

(before I start, anyone else ALWAYS spell ‘days’ as ‘dyas’! Every time!)

I don’t finish things!

For example, this morning I started cleaning up the kitchen, emptying and re-filling the dishwasher… then before I’m finished I decide to do some baking and make more mess!

I still have washing in the machine I’ve yet to hang out from a couple of days ago.

I constantly decide to do things, and start with a hiss and a roar… then give up.

Once I decide to do something I need to focus and… oh, I might go have lunch.
